Frequently asked questions
- Will converting PSD to PNG lose quality?
- Both formats carry full colour, so the encode quality you pick is the only thing that matters here.
- Which quality setting should I use?
- Start at the default, then lower it until you can see the difference at the size the image is actually viewed. Most photographs hold up further down than people expect.
- Can I go back to PSD afterwards?
- You can, and if PNG is lossless the round trip is clean. If PNG is lossy, converting back gives you a PSD wrapper around already-degraded pixels rather than the original.
